I take a tumble...with Sweet Cheeks

I had always wondered, "If I trip holding Sweet Cheeks, would I drop her or hold on?" I got my answer today...

I was at a craft playdate (ghost foot prints, black cat hand prints). The house we were at has this amazing back yard, but you have to go down these steep stairs from the deck to get to it. I went down the stairs just fine. On the very last step as I stepped down onto the stone walkway, I didn't see that the there was a concrete slab that met up with the stone walkway right at the step. My ankle twisted and down I went.

I threw my free arm in front of me - the brunt of the fall and force was absorbed by my knees (now have a huge rip in my capris and a very scraped up right knee). Imagine me on my knees, right arm on the ground and...Sweet Cheeks grasped tightly in my left arm.

As I fell a million thoughts flew in my mind, visions of Sweet Cheeks bleeding on the stone walkway flew threw my mind...and the whole time my left arm squeezed tighter and tighter with every second. It's the first time something happened in slow motion to me...and as I came to a rest on all three, I watched Sweet Cheek's head come within inches of the stone walkway and stop...and then I cried with relief. Disaster averted.

I'm bruised, sore, and I bled...but Sweet Cheeks is safe. I now know without a doubt that I have that Mommy Protection gene in me. I held all 20+ pounds of Sweet Cheeks with my left arm and kept her safe. I hope I'm that lucky next time.
