Second attempt at the Ladybug...

And hubby cut off her head and ate it before I could take pictures. Boo.

It looked better than the first attempt, but ultimately the same...ah well. Now for a break - and thinking about some inspiration for the next one.

Something Just For Me...Kind Of

I've been moping around for a few months now about how I don't have anything just for me any more. How every second of my day is now devoted to someone who is not me - at work, I'm devoted to the Q, at home I'm devoted to the hubs and Sweet Cheeks (and Mookie too). So where is the time for me? And when I figure out how to get it, what do I do with it?

So I've been dying to learn to decorate cakes...not just plain cakes, but actual works of art. When I was travelling as a CRA I fell in love with Ace of Cakes and Cake Boss (I personally like Ace of Cakes better). I always thought, "I could do that," but never had the drive to actually do it. Now that Sweet Cheeks has arrived, I realized I really, really, really wanted to make an amazing smash cake for her birthday. Who am I kidding? I want to make amazing cakes for her birthday every year.

My mom made me a Holly Hobby cake one year. I have no idea what birthday it was, but I remember that cake to this day, much more than all the store bought cakes. Our friend Clem remembers these amazing cakes his mom made for him and his brother for their birthdays. I want Sweet Cheeks to remember her "Holly Hobby" cake, but remember them from every year. OK, so I know Sweet Cheek's not going to remember a smash cake, but she'll look at the pictures and know her mom made that cake from love.

Now, here comes the reality check. Cakes take some time...not only to bake, but to decorate. So I've decided that this will be my for me thing. Granted, I'm doing it for Sweet Cheeks, but I enjoy being artsy and crafty so it's kind of a kill two birds with one stone - show Sweet Cheeks how much I love her, get some time just for me.

How do I find the time? I realized a novel idea - just tell hubs he's on Sweet Cheeks duty. And he's more than happy to do it! Hmmm...why didn't I think of that before?

So here's my first stab - you don't have to say it's good, but please tell me you can tell it's a ladybug. I do think it's not too bad (a little lumpy), but not that bad. I actually have another setup awaiting decoration - I'm an overachiever and just know I can get that cake a little less lumpy...I just know it - hopefully they'll be some pics from that cake to post tomorrow (unless I get lazy). And I cheated - it's store bought cake mix. Baby steps into the for me world - maybe one day they'll be from scratch, but honestly? I love store bought cake mix - I think it's delicious!

The hubs could not wait to decapitate it...

Today was a scorcher...we spent the day trying to beat the heat which meant Sweet Cheeks diapered it all day after we got back from her swim class. I realized that now that we're both back at work, there aren't nearly as many pictures of Sweet Cheeks taken that there used to be and I set out to change that (at least for today). Sweet Cheeks is getting more and more photogenic as time goes on...only issue is she's discovered the camera which makes taking her picture a bit harder nowadays...

Bonus video at the end - enjoy!

All a girl needs is her phone and a comb...and maybe some lip gloss, but Mommy won't let me wear any - YET!

And the love affair with the boxes begins.

Give me that camera...

Well...if you won't give me the camera, I'll settle for the lens cap.
